WELCOME FRIENDS

My photo
That's me on the left. I'm a wife, mother and esthetician. Formerly a city girl, I married an energic and creative country man and with the help of family and friends we built our home on his family's farm. Like our home my life and interests are mostly works in progress.

Mission Accomplished

My first 5k race went very well. Charlie, my sister and her husband came to cheer me on.  What a feeling of accomplishment it gave me.  My cheering section was proud of me and I am proud of myself.  We even raised money for our Vets.

Running Dared

My first 5k is quickly approaching and although I'm progressing into more of a runner than I've ever been, I'm nervously anticipating the race.
But I have discovered three things:  I'm running longer distances than before I started this training.  I'm running faster than before I started this training and I'm running really fast when another runner comes alongside me. I haven't felt this competitive since I won the 20 yard dash in sixth grade!

Breathing lessons

I've joined a running group in preparation for my first 5k run in June.  It's been challenging and that's why, in addition to my regular workouts, I decided to give running a try. During our last practice the air was still and thick and in the middle of the course I had a pain in my side and I was ready to stop.  Our coach reminded me to breath correctly and slow down my pace.  It worked immediately.  As I ran on I could hear his voice, "Slow and steady beats rough and ready." The pain was gone and I could finish the practice.

A Skin Care Primer - The way I see it.

SKIN TYPES:  Oily, dry, combination
Skin changes with the weather, emotions and time.
SKIN CARE VOCAB:
We are NOT aging, we're MATURING.
They are not wrinkles, they're EXPRESSION LINES!
                Age spots?  Freckles!
We are not getting old, we're  getting OLDER.
How we think about ourselves means everything.

Esthetician + Facial = Relaxation

One of the things I really like is helping people look and feel great.  Since becoming a licensed esthetician in 2000 I have given hundreds of facials.

My clients come to me with different concerns about their skin; too oily, too dry, breakouts and wrinkles.  Many of my clients have no real skin concerns but they come to relax.  Some of them never speak a word from the moment my hands touch their face while others talk through the entire facial.  It's their choice.

During the Head, Neck & Shoulder Massage portion of the facial my mind is clear and my hands automatically know the movements to make. When my client is quiet at this time it's so relaxing even for me that I call it being in The Zone.  Some of my clients have said after the facial that they experienced a deep relaxation and peace.  I love telling them I felt the exact same thing.

There are too few careers that have an element of relaxation to them. With everything else I have going on in my life I totally need that.
